Medical education is undergoing a gradual shift from knowledge transmission toward the development of competence, reflection, adaptability, and lifelong learning. The eleven articles in this issue of the Journal of Medical Education Development reflect this transition by examining technology-enhanced learning, clinical education, reflective practice, and learner development from complementary perspectives. Collectively, these studies suggest that the educational value of innovations such as artificial intelligence, gamification, and QR-supported learning depends less on the technologies themselves than on how they are implemented within educational systems. They also highlight the continuing importance of simulation, supervised clinical experience, and curricula that align educational activities with professional expectations. Beyond instructional design, several contributions emphasize the influence of learners' reflective capacity, self-regulation, and cognitive characteristics on educational outcomes. Together, the findings reinforce the need for stronger evidence to guide educational change and caution against adopting emerging approaches without adequate evaluation across diverse contexts. Sustainable improvement in medical education requires thoughtful implementation, institutional support, engaged educators, and learning environments that respond to the needs of both learners and clinical practice.
